Respite Services

Riverlink respite services are available to Carers who are currently caring for people with a disability. Respite to Carers is available through the following programs:

Northern Sydney

Individual Respite

This program provides respite to Carers of younger people and people with high support needs on a 1:1 basis. Respite usually occurs within the home, however access to age appropriate community based venues may also be arranged.

'10-Up' Program

This program provides respite to Carers of younger people with a disability generally aged 8-16yrs who live in the Ryde / Hunters Hill / Lower North Shore area. This program usually operates on a Saturday fortnightly basis for approximately 5 hours. The 10-Up program accesses age appropriate community venues throughout the day. Staffing for this program is in accordance to the support needs of the care recipients, with some capacity to be flexible in meeting the needs of younger people with a disability who have higher support needs.

Young Adult Program

This program provides respite to Carers of Young Adults with a disability generally aged 16-25 yrs who live in the Ryde / Hunters Hill / Lower North Shore area. Staffing for this program is in accordance to the support needs of the care recipients, with some capacity to be flexible in meeting the needs of Young Adults with a disability who have higher support needs. The Young Adult program accesses age appropriate community venues.

In addition to these regular programs, we also offer camps, special activities and school holiday programs when resources allow.

Cumberland - Prospect Program

Riverlink provides respite to Carers of people with a disability aged 0-65yrs in the Cumberland-Prospect region. The Local Government Areas covered are Auburn, Parramatta, Holroyd, Baulkham Hills & Blacktown.

Riverlink aims to meet each Carer’s individual requirements for respite during the week, evening and weekend’s dependant on the current available resources. The Cumberland-Prospect programs have a predominantly “out of home focus” and are provided in a number of ways that are age appropriate for the participants. Below is an outline of our current programs, however this may change over time, as we continue to be responsive to the respite needs of Carers.

Children's Program

This program provides respite to Carers of younger children generally aged 3-10yrs. Riverlink accesses four sites in the Cumberland-Prospect area.

The program usually operates on a Saturday fortnightly basis at each site for approximately 5 hours. This program may run during the school holidays in response to Carer need.

Staffing for this program is in accordance to the support needs of the care recipients, with some capacity to be flexible in meeting the needs of younger children with a disability who have higher support needs.

Club Teen

This program provides respite to Carers of younger people with a disability generally aged 10-16yrs. This program usually operates on a Saturday weekly basis for approximately 5-6 hours. The Club Teen program accesses age appropriate community venues throughout the day. Activities include movies, going to museums, bowling, picnics, etc.

Staffing for this program is in accordance to the support needs of the care recipients, with some capacity to be flexible in meeting the needs of younger people with a disability who have higher support needs.

In addition to our term programs, we also offer camps, special activities and school holiday programs.

Young Adults & The Links Program

These programs provide respite to Carers of young adults with a disability generally aged 16-65 years and usually operate on a Saturday weekly basis for approximately 5-6 hours. These adult programs access age appropriate community venues throughout the day.

Staffing for these programs is in accordance to the support needs of the care recipients, with some capacity to be flexible in meeting the needs of adults with a disability who have higher support needs.

In addition to our term programs, we also offer weekends away and special activities.

Individual Respite

This program provides respite to Carers of younger people and people with high support needs on a 1:1 basis. Respite usually occurs within the home, however access to age appropriate community based venues may also be arranged.
